What the Critics say about Partizan:

"…"They identified Partizan at Newark ... as a good showcase ...[so] we drove ... to the hallowed halls of Kelham."

Michael Button, Battlegames 4

"…Partizan maintains its lead and just keeps getting better."

Wargamer's Notebook, Wargames Illustrated 182

"Newark's Partizan probably presents the finest example [of specialist shows] as far as public displays go. This is a prestigious presentation of the hobby…"

Tim Hallam, Wargames Illustrated 156

"If I can only get to one convention in the year I'm happy so long as it's Newark."
Dominic Skelton, Wargames Illustrated 134.

DATE OF OUR OTHER SHOW IN 2008:

Welcome to Partizan

Kelham Hall
The exterior of Kelham Hall, currently local council HQ, formerly a theological college, and twice a year, the home of Partizan.

Hence, in part, the claim that Newark is the 'spiritual home of wargaming'.*

Followers of Partizan will know that we don't like to boast about the shows, we prefer to let them sell themselves. Hence the often understated advertising. We could, for example, claim to be 'the best show in East Nottinghamshire', or 'probably the best one day show in the world', but we'd rather you came along and made your own mind up. If you want to know how good the games are look through some back issues of 'Wargames Illustrated'. If you want to know what the show is like, ask one of the listed traders how they rate it compared to other shows. Or ask a wargamer who knows....

And if you're reading this from somewhere that we English would call 'abroad', isn't it time for that trip to England?

The Doormen
Things get much better after you get past these people. Richard Tyndall (Partizan co-organiser) and in his shadow Tony Ackland, door manager.

  • *The rest of the claim comes from the fact that Newark is home to not only the Newark Irregulars, but also Wargames Illustrated magazine (and the original home of Miniature Wargames magazine), Sloppy Jalopy, Awesome Enterprises, Legio XX painting services, Dropwing Games systems, The Bunker and was the birthplace of Citadel Miniatures / Games Workshop.
  • We do not claim to be the 'centre of the wargames world' (despite being called that in the book 'Achtung Schweinhund!'). Everyone know that honour belongs to nearby Nottingham, home of Foundry, Perry Miniatures, Games Workshop, Warhammer Historical Battles Ltd, Agema Games, Tumbling Dice Miniatures, Ever Victorious Miniatures, and LB!

Enquires about The Newark Irregulars should be directed to the secretary Laurence Baldwin.
